Nick's Blog RSS

Happy Friday, today's blog will be a shorter one, but is definitely long overdue. After closing our retail operations in November of 2022, our online and physical presence went dormant for a spell. We focused more on our wholesale operations, bettering our processes and envisioning a plan for the business. I have now come into the business, and have a vision of a strong online footprint for Nick's. Hence why the website has been redesigned for a better customer experience...and we now release these wonderful weekly blogs. In today's blog, I will remind our faithful Richmond customer base that we...

Greece, Pastry -

One of my favorite parts of the Greek cuisine is dessert, specifically the pastries. If you have been to Greece, you know there is no "wrong" time to eat dessert. A piece of kataifi with your morning café? Sure. A slice of baklava after lunch? Of course. A quick walk to the bakery for some loukoumades after dinner? You bet. For this week's blog, I had the pleasure of interviewing a very special guest, Linda Caruthers. We talk about her background, the impact that Nick's has had on her family's life, the importance of having Greek "parea", and the charity which she founded, the Pink Chair Project (please read until the end to hear more about this wonderful project). I thoroughly enjoyed this interview, and want to again give a huge THANK YOU to Ms. Caruthers for agreeing to allow me to write about her truly amazing life and experiences. Without further ado, let's jump straight into the blog. Linda...

food, foodie, local, restaurant, Richmond, Virginia -

On Wednesday, I attended Richmond's Specialty Food and Beverage Expo at the Richmond Convention Center. It was a true joy, and booths were packed full of innovative foods, sauces, seasonings, and pre-packaged goods. While I browsed from booth to booth, I engaged in conversation with people from all over the state. One consensus which I reached after reflecting on my interactions, is how great of a food hub Richmond is.  I have spent my entire life in Richmond, and fear I may have taken for granted the restaurant landscape. When you think of "foodie" cities, the places which come to...

Greece, heritage, history, Independence, March 25th -

Hello, and Happy Friday. This upcoming Monday marks a day which Greeks from all around the globe are familiar with, Greek Independence Day. In this week's blog post, I will give a brief historical background, celebrate the home nation, and add a brief personal note about the founder of Nick's himself. Greeks are very prideful individuals. In fact, this past week, I saw an Instagram reel which showed data suggesting that Greeks are the proudest heritage in the world. If you are a Greek, or if you know Greeks, I am sure you can share that same sentiment. I am going...
