A Deep Dive into Olive Oil: The Process and the Rise in Costs
Welcome back, it has been a while since our last blog post! It has been quite the hectic summer, but after two weeks of vacation in the past month, I am back into a work routine that doesn't appear to have any more prolonged trips in the near or distant future. In today's blog, I am going to discuss olive oil. I look into the process of making olive oil, such as how distinctions are made for Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and the process of turning olives on a branch into a liquid form. I also discuss the rise in price...
A Greek Island Summer Vacation Guide
Happy Friday! This week's blog is a brief Greek Island summer vacation guide. Whether you are making the trip this summer, planning on someday making a trip, or simply reading along as a wishful bystander, I hope that this blog can provide either some information or imagination for you. I have been to Greece three times in my life, and after returning last summer, I want to make it a goal of mine to go as often as possible. In this blog, I am going to highlight a little bit of everything you can expect to encounter while in Greece....
Nick's Involvement in the Richmond Greek Festival
Happy Friday, I hope everyone is as excited as I am for a jam-packed weekend at the 46th Richmond Greek Festival. Thank you for your support and kind words on last week's blog post, it was the most popular one I have written to date. This week's blog will be a little bit shorter, but still worth a read. Nick Mourtzakis (later shortened to Mouris) was always proud to help the church, and owning a business allowed him to give back, as...
The 2024 Richmond Greek Festival Guide
The Greek Festival is one of the biggest events Richmond offers leading into the summer months. It is especially busy for members of the St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, as the festival is a huge fundraiser for the church, and requires a lot of volunteer time from the parishioners. After a three year hiatus due to COVID-19 restrictions, the festival returned in full swing last year, and did not disappoint. Amid record crowds and great weather (usually there is at least a day/night of rain, but 2023 was all sunshine), the festival was a huge success. Preparations began...
Mother's Day: The Greek Mother Stereotype
Happy Friday! Christos Anesti, and Kalo Pascha to all who celebrated last weekend. The busy weekends continue on, as this Sunday marks Mother's Day. Happy Mother's Day to all of the wonderful mothers, you can never be grateful enough for what a mother does for you, but Sunday is the day to go over the top with thanks. This week, I have a satirical blog written about the Greek mother. Many of the readers have experienced growing up in a Greek household, and while not all of these stereotypes may be relevant to you, they are stereotypes for a good...
